GRAPHITE
Especially for portraits and files I recommend the pencil. No paint, no brush achieves the precision of a fine pencil tip. I also see a great advantage in the gray tones of graphite, which allow the observer to look deeper, to recognize the character of the depicted, without being distracted by hues.
